As the owner of two rambunctious Australian Shepherds, I've searched and searched for a dependable and knowledgable vet. Dr. Smith at Bocage is it. Everyone has been so friendly. One of the vet techs even went out of his way to pick up medication for my dog so that my dog wouldn't have to go without. The best vet in Baton Rouge, bar none.
Staff is wonderful! Very accommodating and friendly. They always call the day after my dog's vet visits to check on her. Highly recommend Dr. Bud Smith and his team at Bocage Animal Hospital!
I wish Dr. Smith treated people too! My English bulldog Polo adores the staff and how they keep him healthy, they always remind us when it's time for shots, boosters, and they even call the day after to make sure he didn't have any side effects, talk about customer service!! Best prices on tick and flea preventatives. Everyone is super sweet and knowledgeable. 100% recommended :)
The next time I was going out of town, I decided to give it a second try. Dropped her off and the weekend went by without any word from them so I assumed it all went fine. When I picked her up, the first thing the woman who brought her to me said was, "oh she JUST slipped outside and hasn't been putting pressure on her back legs. If she's still hurting tomorrow, bring her in and we can give her an anti-inflammatory shot". Hmm...okay, accidents happen I suppose. But she was acting out of sorts again which made me concerned. I was about to walk out the door when I realized they didn't give me back the bag I had brought all her things in. So I asked about it, which lead to a few different answers. Finally, a gentleman said he would go to the back and get it. When he brought the bag, I looked inside to find that over half of her food I packed was still inside! So they were about to send me on my way without mentioning anything... I asked if she didn't eat because that's extremely out of character for her (my dog is a big foodie). He said "oh she wasn't really eating except for when we fed her our food we have here". Which made me a little upset because every dog owner knows if you're transitioning food, it's supposed to be gradual. Plus, no one had even called me to ask!
As a fellow dog owner, I read reviews often and value feedback of people's experiences so I wanted to share mine just as an FYI. Mind you, this was my experience and it may differ from others who have been there. After bringing her to bocage animal hospital twice I can guarantee we will never be returning. The first time, I picked her up and she was not acting like herself - very timid, somewhat nervous and noteably lethargic. She also had some unusual marks near her rear, but when I called to ask about it they said nothing happened. I passed it off as she just spent the weekend in a new place and hadn't yet adjusted.
When I got her home that night, her breathing was shallow and she didn't move from one spot the entire night (her lethargy may be due to an upset stomach from the food they fed her). I also discovered a large gash on her mouth and ulcers inside - neither of which were there when I dropped her off! It was all just very peculiar and no one could seem to give me clear answers. What really goes on inside this place I may never know but I can guarantee that was the last time we go there.
Great experience Dr Prejean was great and the staff was nice for my puppy's first shots
