2. The food is quite terrible. I think someone said that the food was delivered there daily from Baton Rouge General, but I don't know if that was true or not. The portions were very small and not enough for a small woman like me (5'2", 1xx lbs), let alone some of the large, grown men in there. It was sad having to watch grown men beg for extra portions of food from other patients.
Personal Note: TBH, I probably had it a little better than some others because I made sure I was polite to the nurses and other patients (for the most part, hehe). But my stay there was a six-day nightmare. I went in on a Tuesday and on the Friday, the doctor told me that I would leave "sometime next week." Like, "Hey, no big deals! I know you're waiting to see your five-month old daughter, but let's see how long we can hold you before you catch a fit." And I almost did. Monday came and the doctor (Atluri) told me that I would be leaving Tuesday morning. I had already told my husband that morning that I couldn't stay another night. I had been crying because it was too long being away from my daughter. The nurses showed sympathy but the doctor didn't give a shite. She made that quite obvious. It was all affecting my progress negatively. Thankfully, my husband called and complained and said he wanted me home that day and they came and called me to say I would be able to leave that same day. One of the patients were pissed because the doctor had just told her that they didn't do same-day releases.
7. Most of the groups are pretty much the nurses talking about there own issues. And there is nothing better to do than sit there and listen to them. One of the groups was done by this very passive guy named Steven who would pretty much let anyone talk over him at any given time, then talk over the other patients, then talk in the dirtiest ways, then storm out of the room cursing. He gave zero effs.
Also, they are extremely unprofessional and hold patients longer than necessary! Most of the staff members are doing drugs! It's just extremely unhelpful!!
horrific, abusive environment. was assaulted by another patient (punched in the head) and staff acted angry and frustrated at being bothered with it even though they were witnesses. was denied access to a lawyer when staff tried to force me to only use the phone on the desk where they could hear me. staff complained they shouldn't have to drive to get enough food for patients even though at the time their kitchen was broken. one staff member accused me of drug seeking (was there after a suicide attempt), my blood pressure was so high from anxiety and stress the staff kept commenting i had to be lying about not having a blood pressure disorder (no other hospital has ever noted weird blood). no therapy, you just sit in front of the TV all day, mentally disabled people are ABUSED in front of you. the staff here shouldn't be in charge of wiping their own butts, let alone humans
All the staff does is shove medication down your throat, get you addicted, throw you out into the world and not approve your prescription for almost 2 weeks. The doctor (Patel) was on vacation the 6 of 7 days I was there. They would not let me leave until the doctor could "eyeball me". So many bad things have happened there. I ended more depressed and addicted to detox medicine (I was there for anxiety)
1. There are rules that some nurses follow and others don't. It was hard to keep up with the rules because they changed depending on who was working at the time. Then, there were rules that nurses would try to enforce with some patients, but wouldn't even bother with others.
3. This is a place for recovery and detox but most of the patients are walking around completely drugged up. It's not even funny watching some of the patients fall asleep while standing up, unable to speak comprehensibly, and drooling all over the place.
I was at sea side when an elderly woman died on 6/6/2017. I put 5 starts so this will be seen! She was very mentally ill and treated horribly! Forced to stay in her room for hours and hours at a time. Even all day if they didn't feel like "dealing with her". They would strong arm her and be very demanding and rough with her. She fell straight down on her face standing next to two staff members who didn't even try to catch her fall. Her head hit so hard it shook the floor. They didn't even take her to the hospital. They just put her in the room. Later that night a staff memeber went to check on her and she was dead sitting up in her wheel chair. We were all forced to go in our rooms and was unable to see if they even tried to recessitate her or what they did. Some staff gossiped about being happy to not having to "deal with her anymore".
There should have been some kind of investigation behind her death. Patients weren't questioned and we all knew that she could have be alive today if they would have just took her to the hospital when she fell!
4. It's freezing and they refuse to adjust the thermostat. My roommate was an elderly lady with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis and she couldn't beg them enough to lower the thermostat at night so she could at least shower. She also needed a shower chair because it was so hard for her to stand up while showering and they could not provide one. She had to use a chair from the TV room.
I called the operator this morning where she answers, "Good morning how may I direct your call". I begin to say, "Good morning I'm calling to see who I would need to get in contact with to..." she hung up on me in the middle of my question. Unprofessional is as accurate as it gets. I called a counselor, left my phone number and multiple voicemails for something I needed handled immediately. When I finally get this woman on the phone and introduce myself all she says is "Humph". I leave you voicemails stressing the urgency of my call and you have an attitude??? So that lets me know you heard them chose not to call and couldn't care less about my situation. A counselor for seaside in Baton Rouge. What does that say about the facility?
5. There is no outside time. People are allowed to smoke once after each meal and once before bed. But other than that, not even a breath of fresh air from outdoors. 6. There are no vending machines for snacks or drinks. They will not give you caffeine. Even the terrible coffee is decaf.
Some of the nurses here are very personable and nice, but others are the loudest, rudest, most disrespectful "professionals" you will ever meet. I was very observant during my stay here, so my review will be long.
