This is one of those restaurants where the food is indistinguishable from that of your favorite auntie or your grandmother when you were growing up. The pork chop was well-seasoned and completely covered in _really_ tasty gravy which went well with the rice (not too sticky, not two separate).
- A few flies were flying around
- Parking is limited and tight

As if you were the reviews here have stated, the sweet tea is… The reason why sweet tea is an institution in the south. Strong, long-brewed tea taste and a lot of sugar. Too many places screwup that "long-brewed" part; this was PERFECT.
Bottom line: Dorothy's serves truly delicious home-cooked soul food. Honestly, it's easily among the best I've ever had at a restaurant!
Served with smothered green beans just like they came out of my mom's cast iron pot. Candied sweet potatoes are always hard to screw up but these were truly delicious.

Soul food at its absolute best! Every item ordered was served steaming hot and was extremely flavorful. Specials and menu items depend on the day.
And the portions: Large – – the size you will want after you taste the food.
Food was hot & yummy. Especially the yams. & it was a good portion for the price.
The food is terrific, delicious wonderful down home cooking! However, the wait time is ridiculously long even when you call your order in. The waiter does a great job juggling everyone, just wish he had help getting out the orders!
- Generous food item portions
And to me the mark of weather a restaurant really knows what's up: the cornbread. The cornbread was browned and just slightly crispy for a couple of millimeters on the outside edges where it was touching the pan (if you don't know cornbread, that's a good thing); lighter and just a bit more crumbly than most, the taste was perfect: halfway between sweet and salty and it perfectly complemented The meal it was served with.
Items ordered: fried fish, cabbage, macaroni & cheese, yams, red beans & rice
The meal: Smothered pork chops with gravy and rice; smothered green beans; candied sweet potatoes; cornbread; sweet tea.
The environment is homey and clean and comfortable. This is not the kind of place to go if you're looking for lack of ambient noise. But if you're looking for lack of ambient noise, you're not looking for soul food anyway.
- Dining area is really small
Pros:
Cons:
- Friendly employees & excellent service
Had to leave a good $tip$. Was looking for somewhere to eat on my lone trip to Baton Rouge LA. Stopped in from NY by way of GA.. I was not disappointed not one bit... I will be back when in town.. :)
